Enough Rope by Lawrence Block
Weekend Guests by Lawrence Block is a great short story. It’s about a couple who were away for the weekend, and when they returned, they found their house a shambles. Everything was turned upside down. Someone had entered their house while they were gone. Later that night, Pete picked up Eddie, the one whose house was broken into, and they went for a ride. Roz, Eddie’s wife stayed home. They talked about the burglary. Now, you’ll have to read the story to see what happened and where Eddie and Pete were headed.

Funny You Should Ask is a great story. You will enjoy reading it. Robert Tillinghast is the main character. He went into a store and talked to the proprietor about the jeans that he sells. The jeans are used. Robert wants to know where he gets the jeans because they all look like they are at the comfortable stage in wear. Later on, Robert is riding with a young man in his truck, and they talk about recycled jeans. Now, you’ll have to read the story to find out what happened.

An Almost Perfect Crimeby William F. Smith was another interesting mystery in the anthology, Perfect Crimes and Impossible Mysteriesedited by Mike Ashley. In this story, a man was murdered with an ice pick in an phone booth. Nobody was near the phone booth, so the police don’t know how he could have been killed. This is another impossible mystery. Now, you’ll have to read the story to find out how the crime was committed.

The X Street Murders by Joseph Commings is in the anthology, Perfect Crimes and Impossible Mysteries edited by Mike Ashley. The story was about a man who was murdered, and the weapon was sealed in an envelope. There weren’t any holes in the envelope to show the weapon had been used. Now the police are baffled as to how this murder had taken place. If you are intrigued by impossible crimes, you will enjoy reading this story.

Perfect Crimes and Impossible Mysteries edited by Mike Ashley is a great anthology. I highly recommend this book if you are intrigued by these types of stories.

In For A Penny by Lawrence Block

In For A Penny by Lawrence Block is a good story about Paul, who was released from prison. He was surprised at the help he received. He was given a small apartment and a job that would help him get back into society. He started going to movies, but then he ended up getting two bottles of beer and a package of cigarettes. He would walk home from work and sit and watch television as he smoked his cigarettes and drank his beer. During the first few weeks of him being out of prison, he had been tempted to go into a place that could cause him to return to prison. He tried to avoid that place by walking on the other side of the street. He was still tempted to go into the place, but he didn’t want to return to prison. Now, you’ll have to read the story to see what happened.

Passport in Order by Lawrence Block is another short story in the anthology, The Collected Mystery Stories by Lawrence Block. This story is about a couple who have been meeting together. The woman isn’t happily married and wants to be with her lover. Now, her lover is planning on killing the woman’s husband so they can be together forever. You’ll have to read the story to find out what happens.
