Russell Brand Tells All in ‘My Booky Wook’
Monday, March 9th, 2009
There are two things that have become ubiquitous in American pop culture: celebrity memoirs and Russell Brand. Now the two have merged, and all anyone is talking about is Russell Brand’s memoir My Booky Wook: A Memoir of Sex, Drugs, and Stand-Up, which was published in 2007 and has already become an international bestseller.
Russell Brand is a comedian, journalist, TV and radio host, and actor that broke into the American tabloid news with his role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, followed by hosting the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. He led a troubled childhood in Essex, England, and eventually spiraled downward, fighting addictions to alcohol, drugs, and sex. His memoir tells his story.
After the success of his first book, Brand received a two-book, £1.8 million deal with HarperCollins. The first, Articles of Faith, was published last year and the second is expected to hit shelves this year.
