How He Left the Hotel by Louisa Baldwin

This story is about a man named Mole. He got a job working in a passenger lift in the Empire Hotel. He would take passengers up and down throughout the day and night. There was a mirror in the lift, and the women would make sure they looked okay before they went out for the evening. One man that he remembered the most was Colonel Saxby. One night, he got called to go up to the fourth floor. Colonel Saxby wanted to take the lift down. Mole didn’t know why he would want to leave at 12 midnight when he hadn’t left his room for ten days. He went to get him and took him down to the main floor. A few minutes later, two men wanted to go up to the fourth floor. They were called to see about a patient. The patient was Colonel Saxby. The nurse came out of the room and said the patient died five mintes go. Now, you’ll have to read the story to find out what happened. He died in his room, but yet he took the lift down to go outside before that.
