In Theaters Now: Kate Winslet Stars in Two Films Based on Novels
Actress Kate Winslet get my vote for her apparent campaign to be named “Queen of Movies Based on Books.” In theaters currently, she is starring in both Revolutionary Road and The Reader based on novels by authors Richard Yates and Bernhard Schlink respectively. Both movies have already garnered much acclaim, earning dozens of awards and nominations each. Likewise, the book sales of both titles have soared, landing both on the current New York Times bestsellers lists.
But starring in novel-based films is not a new task for Ms. Winslet. In 2006, she acted in Little Children, which was based on Tom Perrotta’s novel, and All the King’s Men, which was adapted from the 1946 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Robert Penn Warren. Sense and Sensibility and Hamlet are also on her acting resume - and hopefully there are more to come.
