Enough Rope by Lawrence Block
The Most Unusual Snatch by Lawrence Bock is found in his anthology, Enough Rope. A young girl Carole Butler, who was almost eighteen years old, was kidnapped just a short distance from her house. A young man asked her what time it was, and someone grabbed her from behind and put something over her mouth. The kidnappers wanted seventy-five thousand dollars for the return of the girl. One kidnapper wanted to drag it out, so Carole’s father wouldn’t have time to call the police. Carole woke up and heard them talking. Finally, she started telling them they should ask for more because her father could afford it. She even told them where her father kept some money. Howie went to call about the ransom, and Ray stayed with Carole. She started coming on to him and coaxed him to untie her. Then, Ray started kissing her. Now, you’ll have to read the rest of the story to find out what happened when Howie returned.
